Course Description

This qualification was previously known as the PTLLS course. This course is ideal for anybody who delivers training in the workplace or wishes to teach in the further Education & Skills Sector and forms a foundation for those with little or no previous experience of teaching or training. This award is also required for anybody teaching a range of regulated qualifications and awards provided by awarding organisations.

  • For individuals currently working as assessors, who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching
  • For individuals currently teaching and training, including those new to the profession – although the qualification does not require teaching practice, opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher’s practice
  • For individuals who have completed some introduction to training qualifications

How long does the course take?

The typical learner takes approximately 48 hours to complete this qualification however learners go at their own pace and can complete within one week or can take up to 12 months depending on their personal circumstances

How is the course assessed?

The qualification is assessed by 2x short essays and a micro-teach session.

There are multiple options for your micro-teach session where you can complete a one-hour recording of your session at your workplace or any place where you teach others. You can complete your micro-teach using online virtual training with your peers in a pre-determined session time lasting 15 minutes or alternatively you can complete your micro-teach at a classroom near you. Please note that if you are using the option of recording your own session, this must be at least 60 minutes long to meet the qualification requirements.

When do I complete my Micro teach?

We run monthly sessions to complete your Microteach. IF you are completing a classroom course, the Micoroteach will be during your class. However if you are completing self-study and distance learning, we hold Microteach sessions throughout the month. There may be times when you can use our existing classes to complete your session so you will need to contact for further information.

If you have access to your own learners, whether friends, classes, clubs, etc, you can record your Microteach session in your own time and send this to us.

Are their any pre-requisites to join the course?

You must:

  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Possess good reading & writing skills in English
  • Possess good knowledge of the subject you wish to teach/deliver

This all depends on what you are planning to teach and what qualifications you currently hold and the relevant experience that you possess. This is why it is important that you have a subject specialism. You can teach up to Level 3 in your chosen field such as construction, health and safety, manual handling, health and social care, hairdressing, beauty therapy, gym instructor, etc.
